Overview

Originally starting a website redesign and replatform project with my employer, our company soon disbanded leaving Burt’s Bees Baby in limbo. Having a close relationship with the client, I was asked to single-handedly continue the website design where we left off.

Roughly two months later, I provided the final prototypes, assets, annotations and pattern library to the client to hand-off to their internal developers.

Site Analysis

Before diving into the design of the project, we first identified all problem areas and recommendations for improvement on the client’s existing site.

Burt's Site Analysis - SEO

SEO suggestions for product titles, descriptions, meta data, URL’s and more

Burt's Site Analysis - Grid

Enhancements included: displaying more than twelve products per page, removing product ratings, as they are all unrated, improve product photography and restructuring the category filters.

Burt's Site Analysis - Account

Adding social media options would make the login process easier and quicker

Burt's Site Analysis - Header

The site’s header was cluttered, overwhelming and took up far too much of prime real estate.

Roadmap

I developed a plan, outline and schedule for my creative team’s tasks and deliverables for the first few weeks.

Next, I established a timeline that aligned both the client’s and designers’ schedules, ensuring we stayed on track to meet project deadlines.

Taxonomy & Navigation

A major area for improvement was optimizing the site's current taxonomy and navigation. We performed robust data analysis to determine the most popular products, categories, styles and more. From there, we crafted and optimized the navigation to ensure the smoothest user experience.

Burt's Final Thoughts

I am extremely proud of this project, having been the only designer involved with such a well known company and product.

Even after our agency came to an end, I continued to work with the client resulting in a seamless and successful product.
